Lionel Racing released its top-selling 1/24 NASCAR diecasts of 2024 on Dec. 19. Though the results were generally unsurprising — popular drivers dominate the list, of course — there were some unexpected entries.
Diecast Mag confirmed with Lionel Racing the top-10 list is based on “sales orders” throughout 2024.
The Earnhardt name remains a steady force in NASCAR memorabilia, underscored by Dale Earnhardt Jr topping the list for 2024 diecast sales. Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s 2024 Budweiser Late Model, the return of Junior’s iconic No. 8/Budweiser he raced with Dale Earnhardt Incorporated (DEI), outsold all other diecast this year. It marks the first time a non-Cup Series diecast has taken the sales crown for the year.
“Dale Jr. reuniting with Budweiser and his signature number eight was meaningful to many fans and collectors across motorsports,” Lionel CEO Howard Hitchcock said in a press release. “Just how meaningful it was showed right away in strong demand for the die-cast.”
With the top-selling diecast of 2024, Earnhardt Jr has appeared on the top-10 sellers list for the fourth straight year despite his retirement from full-time racing in 2017. His No. 8 United for America Xfinity Series diecast was the No. 5 best-seller in 2021. His Sun Drop late model car was No. 4 on the list of 2022’s best-sellers. His Bass Pro Shops Late Model, raced at the 2022 South Carolina 400 at Florence Speedway, was the ninth best-seller of 2023.
Chase Elliott, NASCAR’s most popular driver, takes the No. 2 spot with his Hooters Texas Win. The win was Elliott’s only of the 2024 season, and it sent longtime NASCAR sponsor Hooters out on top. In mid-2024 it was reported Hooters could “not meet its financial commitments” in sponsoring the Hendrick Motorsports No. 9.
Elliott’s Hooters scheme also takes the No. 8 spot for 2024’s top sellers.
Kyle Larson also makes a double appearance, starting at No. 3 with his 2024 HendrickCars.com Throwback to Terry Labonte’s iconic Kellogg’s ride of the 1990s. Larson’s 2024 Indianapolis win landed at No. 7.
William Byron’s Daytona 500 Win was the fourth best-selling diecast of the year. Brad Keselowski rounded on the top-five with his Castrol Darlington Win, a throwback to the Castrol TOM’s Supra GT.
Perhaps the only surprise among 2024’s best sellers is Corey LaJoie with his Chili’s “Catch a Rita” scheme earning the No. 6 spot.
Another driver making his first appearance on the best-sellers list is Tyler Reddick with his 2024 Jordan Brand White Talladega Win 1/24.
The final diecast to earn a spot is Joey Logano’s Shell-Pennzoil Championship diecast, marking Logano’s third Cup Series title. This marks Logano’s first appearance on Lionel Racing’s best-sellers list since the company began publishing them in 2011.
