Hendrick Motorsports is the juggernaut NASCAR team, and for January the team’s cars dominated the list for priciest eBay diecast sales. Four of the five entries this month feature Hendrick cars and drivers. And just as a non-Cup car was Lionel’s top-selling diecast of 2024, a late model takes the crown for the most expensive diecast sold on eBay this month.
Two cars tied for the fourth most expensive sale ($499.99) in January, one being a celebration of all things Hendrick.
At the 2024 Cook Out 400 at Martinsville April 7, all four Hendrick cars sported a “Ruby Red” finish, honoring the color of Hendrick’s first car (also a Chevrolet). The schemes also celebrated the team’s 40th year and the 40th anniversary of Geoff Bodine’s Martinsville win for All-Star Racing, which later became HMS.
Marking the occasion with hundreds of former and current HMS employees in attendance, William Byron won with Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson completing a 1-3 sweep of the event (Alex Bowman finished eighth).
An Elite Premier Raced Win version of Byron’s Ruby Red ride, DIN No. 1, fetched a handsome $499.99.

Selling for the same price is a Hendrick No. 24 from a decade prior. Jeff Gordon’s Axalta Coatings/Finishmaster Chevy SS made several appearances throughout the season, and perhaps there was a bit of magic in the flame-sporting scheme. Gordon won at Indianapolis, Michigan and Kansas that season in the ride.
A prototype of Gordon’s Axalta/Finishmaster 2014 Chevrolet sold in January for $499.99. As with all prototypes, it doesn’t include a box, and there are some notable differences in the production car and this prototype. The seller states some of the yellows and oranges are “muted,” the rear windshield access points are highlighted in red on the prototype, while on the production car they are orange, and some other differences.

The No. 3 most expensive diecast of January is the only non-Hendrick car. An Elite Gold version of Tyler Reddick’s 2024 Jordan Brand Talladega raced win fetched $500. The Elite Gold version is one of just 48 exampled produced. The race served up an expected dramatic finish as Michael McDowell led Brad Keselowski heading to the start/finish line. McDowell attempted to block a run from Keselowski, contacted the No. 6, and was sent spinning into the outside wall. Reddick entered the front stretch in fifth, but as the melee ensued, he shot the gap between McDowell’s spinning FRM car and Keselowski to escape unscathed and capture the win in the final few hundred yards of the 500-mile race.

Two Chase Elliott wins, 15 years apart, earn the top two spots in January.
Runner-up for January is Elliott’s 2024 Hooters Texas Raced Win in Elite Gold, one of just 48 produced. The win marked Elliott’s only victory of 2024 in Hooters’ last season sponsoring the driver as the company could “not meet its financial commitments” in continuing the sponsorship. DIN 18 of the 48 Elite Gold Raced Win versions produced earned the seller an impressive $699.99.

The top sale of January is Elliott’s 2011 Aaron’s Snowball Derby late model win 1/24 diecast. The raced win diecast was originally offered through Elliott’s website and limited to 150 autographed versions with a COA, effectively making it a grail from the get-go. As such, the version which sold Jan. 27, garnering 34 bids in the process, still commanded an impressive $920 despite it not having a box or its COA.
Elliott became the youngest driver to win the Snowball Derby in its 44th running. Elliott had turned 16 just a few days before the event.
The then-teenager moved up to fifth, passing Landon Cassill and Grant Enfinger, before he was hit from behind on a restart, breaking the back bumper brace bar. Elliott’s team made several stops under caution to fix the damage while keeping him on the lead lap. He then fought his way through the field and, following a red flag, survived a five-lap dash to earn the title of youngest Snowball Derby winner.
Of note, this is the second time Elliott’s Snowball Derby winner has earned the title of most expensive sale of the month. Another example fetched a whopping $2,025 in August, though that example did include a box and COA.

Of note, a Wood Brothers car takes an honorable mention this month. Ryan Blaney’s 2016 Virginia Tech 1/24 Ford, signed by Blaney, Leonard Wood, Eddie Wood and Delano Wood, sold for $450.
Diecast Mag’s Most Expensive eBay Diecast Sales of the Month are compiled from eBay sold listings in which the diecast was sold via auction or the Buy It Now feature. Only single diecast sales are included and those found by searching specific NASCAR diecast 1/24 criteria. Diecast Mag is not affiliated with eBay and makes no claims the auction prices listed were the final price paid by the auction winner.
