Lionel Racing announced Thursday it will implement a five-percent “Tariff Surcharge” to new orders and purchases made between March 7 and March 27. The statement was emailed to customers and states Lionel “has been working to understand the recent tariffs implemented on imported goods and how they will impact our business.”

The statement claims Lionel faces a 20-percent tariff on products imported from China.

“At this point, we don’t know if that percentage will change, nor how long the tariff will be in effect,” the statement said. “Given these uncertainties, we are reluctant to implement across-the-board price increases that would place the full burden of these changes on our customers.”

Orders made on or after March 27 will be subjected to the 5-percent added charge. New and existing sales order for product that is received after March 7 will be subject to the five-percent surcharge. The surcharge will be listed separately in the shopping cart on sales orders. “Any new or existing sales order for products that arrived at our warehouse prior to March 7th, 2025 will not incur the surcharge,” the statement said. “The Lionel team will continue to review and adjust or remove the surcharge from new orders should the current Tariff change or be lifted.”
