Time has not faded the prestige of the Earnhardt or Gordon name among diecast collectors, evidenced by all five of the priciest 1/24 NASCAR diecast eBay sales of May involving the two iconic names of the sport. Meanwhile, a far less prolific NASCAR name earned the two highest 1/64 sales of May.

For the 1/24s, all five diecasts crested $1,100 each.

The fifth most expensive sale of the month is Jeff Gordon’s 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 Chevy in Color Chrome finish, one of just 84 produced, sold for $1,120.

Gordon’s TMNT scheme is a highly sought-after diecast in all finishes, underscored by the scheme making its third appearance in the priciest sales of the month since Diecast Mag began tracking them in mid-2024. In August 2024, two Gordon TMNT 1/24s made the list. An Elite version sold for $990 while an Elite Color Chrome commanded $1,400.

Certainly the most generally desirable diecast of recent memory is Justin Allgaier’s 2025 Traveller Whiskey Daytona 500 JR Motorsports ride, highlighted by another double appearance on this month’s priciest diecast sales list.

Two of the 36 Elite Gold examples of Allgaier’s No. 40 — taking the No. 4 and No. 3 spots for May — sold this month totaling over $2,600. DIN 3 sold for $1,300 on May 26, while DIN 16 garnered $1,341.

In the last three months, just six examples of the Traveller Whiskey Chevy have combined sales of $7,772, an average of $1,287 per diecast.

The runner-up position for May also includes the Earnhardt name, though more directly in this case. In 2010, Action released several versions of Dale Earnhardt’s 1988 Monte Carlo. Among them were 89 Gold versions. One such Gold example, DIN 39, sold May 4 for $1,527 with 35 bids entered.

This sale marks the second time a Gold version of Earnhardt’s 1988 Monte Carlo has earned a spot on the top eBay sales list. In March, another example sold for $992 with 19 bids.

The most expensive sale of May belongs to a sought-after, one-hit wonder from Jeff Gordon, his 1998 ChromaLusion special scheme from the 1998 Winston. The scheme highlighted DuPont’s color-shifting ChromaLusion’s paint and NASCAR’s 50th anniversary.

Gordon looked primed to put the car in victory lane for The Winston after leading the most laps. However, the No. 24 ride ran out of gas while leading as the white flag flew. Mark Martin, who had passed Bobby Labonte a lap earlier, earned the win.

Gordon’s ChormaLusion Monte Carlo had staggering diecast production numbers. Tens of thousands 1/24 and 1/64 examples were produced by Revell, Action, and Brookfield, with additional memorabilia, like bass fishing boats, a Chevy Tahoe, gas pumps and a ¼-scale helmet, donning the scheme.

Despite the massive production figures, a Gold version was never made available. However, three Gold Elite ChromaLusion 1/24s prototypes were reportedly made, and one sold for a staggering $3,000 on May 4. According to the listing, the never-produced diecast was sold by the original owner who noted they, “had connections at Action back in the day.” Nearly 30 years later, that connection helped the seller earn the title of the most expensive NASCAR diecast sold on eBay in May 2025.

Impressive sales figures also extended to 1/64 scale diecasts in May, with the top three sales combining for nearly $600 with all five models commanding at least $160.

Occupying spots No. 5 and 3 on the list are two versions of Team Red Bull’s rides from the late 2000s. At No. 5, sold for $160, is AJ Allmendinger’s No. 84 Red Bull Toyota manufactured by Motorsports Authentics. Selling for a few dollars more — $162.50 to be exact — is Brian Vickers’ 2008 No. 83 Red Bull COT.

At No. 4 is Ross Chastain’s Nutrien AG Solutions Xfinity Series promotional diecast, which was only available through the sponsoring company. The 1/24 and 1/64 versions are both hard-to-find, and as such, a 1/64 version sold May 28 commanded $160.

An often-forgotten NASCAR name occupies the top two spots for 1/64 scales in May despite being one the most well-rounded North American racing series drivers of the late 1990s and 2000s.

Canadian Patrick Carpentier made his rise in open-wheel racing in the 1990s, starting with the Player’s Toyota Atlantic Championship before earning rides in CART, Champ Car and IndyCar (IRL). Carpentier is also a veteran of the Rolex Grand-Am Sports Car Series driving a Pontiac-Riley Daytona prototype. Simultaneously in 2007, Carpentier made his first starts in both the Busch and Cup Series.

Carpentier made a splash in his Busch debut, earning the pole at in his home country at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He finished second, his best result in 59 NASCAR races. In three Cup Series starts in 2007, his best finish was 22nd at Watkins Glen driving for Gillette Evernham Motorsports.

Carpentier remained with Gillett Evernham for 2008, making 24 starts for the team with five DNQs. Though he didn’t crack the top-10, Carpentier did earn a surprising pole at Loudon.

His 2008 campaign marked the only time Carpentier’s name was placed on a 1/64 diecast. His No. 10 Dodge Charger COT, sponsored by Valvoline, was produced by Action in 2008. All Dodge COT diecasts are sought-after, and among the most difficult to land is Carpentier’s ride. Perhaps that’s why two 1/64 versions of his 2008 ride commanded $200 on May 16.
